​Thompson's Lake Improvement Association

History

 

The lake has been an active tourist attraction since the late 1800's. The Lakeside Hotel was a stopping point for people traveling to and from the Albany area.

 

Travelers could take the D & H train from Albany to Altamont or you could take the autobus service. Thacher Park was a favorite place for many people to explore. Some early postcards from the lake can be seen on this page. If you have items you would like to share please let us know.

 

Thompson Lake Improvement Association was founded in 1956 to help find ways to deal with flooding at the lake. Since then, many topics, issues, gatherings, etc. have been addressed, dealt with, or celebrated.
